Miss Manners – 3 Lessons On Public Speaking

Miss Manners is on a mission to show us how to behave in public. She is currently using her YouTube channel to showcase some of her most recent and popular tips and tricks. I’m sure that every parent out there is sitting right behind you with their children and watching her videos. She is an absolute genius when it comes to this area of parenting. In this article, I’ll give you a brief overview of some of the lessons she has given us.

The most important thing is to have manners. GENTLE READER: send them on an etiquette primer. The next time you visit, Miss Manners recommends that you spell out the proper names of your family members, as well as their common pronunciations. This way, when they ask, you can good-naturedly tell her, “Well, Karleeyeg, now you know. You can go out there, get whatever you want, and do whatever you want. The rest will be history.”

Don’t forget to have fun! In every Miss Manners video, she includes one of my favorite quotes, “The only way to go with anything is if you’re willing to fail, and then try again!” I’ve always found this very fitting. After all, failure is an essential part of learning to do anything worthwhile. Failure is the only way to learn how to do something, especially something as important as being polite. You should be willing to be a little embarrassed as you try something new. Your children will appreciate this, and you’ll be proud to have taught them the correct way to behave in public.

Take it easy! Miss Manners is always encouraging us to step it up a notch or two and take things a little easier. She tells us to be courteous and polite. She encourages us to remember that it is our word and not hers that we’re talking about. I really don’t think this advice is just for adults, but she’s always putting it forth there. in her videos. I find this to be extremely helpful because you don’t have to worry about being too rude and annoying everyone around you at the same time.

When you go out, keep your hair tied! This might sound silly to some, but Miss Manners actually encourages us to keep our hair away from our faces when we go out and be a little more polite. This seems like common sense, doesn’t it? However, many people who have long, flowing hair often forget to tie it up when they go out for a night on the town. So this rule is really one of those things where I can see how it’s not always perfect, but it’s always a good idea.

You’re always allowed two mistakes! Of course, there are no real rules about how you should behave when you’re walking in a park. If you make a mistake, just take it like a man! However, I do encourage you to do so in front of everyone and in front of the kids.
